Russia has announced the capture of Chasiv Yar, a strategically significant town in eastern Ukraine, in what could become a turning point in its grinding war campaign.
The Russian Defense Ministry released drone footage and statements Thursday, claiming control of the town after clearing more than 4,200 buildings and detaining around 50 Ukrainian soldiers.
Chasiv Yar, located just west of the destroyed city of Bakhmut, sits on elevated terrain — providing a commanding position over much of the Donetsk region.
